Our Story

Tool Studios was founded 10 years ago. To be exact, it was founded two days before September 11, 2001, during one of our country's worst economic downturns.

This turned out to be an excellent time to learn how to run an agency & software consulting company. From the beginning, we've kept our heads down and focused on flexible processes and long-term relationships with our clients.

Ten years ago, we set out to help entrepreneurs build products that could change the world. The web was still young, and the possibilities made us dizzy. Ten years later, the goal is still the same, and the possibilities make us dizzier than ever.

We have worked with a variety of teams including startups with crazy dreams, large well known corporations, and nonprofits that fill us with hope. Through booms and busts, from desktop to web to mobile, we've done work for which we are deeply proud.

Why the name?

The name comes from the concept of a builder. A great builder keeps close to him the tools needed for any one project (his ToolBelt). He then turns to specialized tools, his subcontractors and specialists to assemble the right expertise to get it done, (the ToolBox). From here, the possibilities are unlimited. Led by the founder's 20 year track record of building solid companies, directing all kinds of creative, and dreaming along side his clients, ToolStudios delivers the best of the best in an honest and direct manner.

Our Beliefs

  • We believe a brand is never one thing, but a collection of design elements, processes, and commitments to unify all components into a single body of work.
  • We believe that consistency truly equates with confidence and that, in-turn, leads to sales.
  • We believe we are partners and we are as passionate about your brand as you are. From this passion we hold to our beliefs and fight for them every step of the way.
  • We believe that our work is for the target market, not for the client and, most certainly, not for us.
  • We believe that design has a subjective element and we will make every effort to accommodate your own likes and dislikes and we will tell you if they will keep you from your goals.
  • We believe that no one person can deliver the quality we strive for. It is a collaborative effort, including the customer, the account manager, the designer, the creative director, and anyone accessible to us within the target.
  • We believe we are not perfect, but we always work to achieve it.
  • We believe in change, the environment in which we work requires it. What we believe today will shift. We learn, we adjust, and we learn again.
  • We believe in challenging our own process and our own ideas in a professional manner, understanding that everyone contributes.

  • We believe that if the product is solid then the creative content will be too. That makes marketing effortless.
  • We believe in honesty and when a client brings us an idea we will only take it on if we feel we can stand behind it and deliver.
